Lavinia Engle
Scholarship Fund

The Lavinia Engle Scholarship Fund was established in 1980 to honor the memory of suffragist and public servant Lavinia Engle by assisting women in attaining a college education.

The fund offers need-based scholarships to hard-working, female-identifying, recent high school graduates, or those returning to continue their education, living in Montgomery County, MD, who enroll in a 2 or 4-year undergraduate program within the state of Maryland.

Our grants range in size from $500 to $3,000 and are for one year (renewable). Recipients decide how to use the money. Some apply it to tuition, some use it to buy books, others use it to pay for gas so they can commute to classes.

Applications for the next school year are due April 15, 2027.

“This was my first year working with children with autism. I am proud to say the boy I work with started talking! Thank you. Without this foundation, I would not have believed in myself to continue my education.”

— Grace G.

“One of the biggest challenges that I faced in college so far has been Calculus. I used my scholarship money to pay a personal tutor, and with their help, I passed the class.”

— Michelle C.

“Before going to college, I knew I would have to buy books, but little did I know they were really expensive. With your funding, I was able to buy many of the book that my classes required.”

— Sarai D.
